About Penn Y Caerau's Florida Cracker Sheep
Florida Cracker Sheep, formerly known as Florida Natives, are one of the oldest breeds of sheep in North America. They are believed to be descendents of the sheep brought by the Spanish in the 1500's and free ranged throughout Florida until around 1949 which marked the end of open range. They developed through natural selection to thrive in the humid subtropical conditions of the state and are very hardy, parasite resistant and are excellent mothers.
